Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA)

Beginning in 2015, the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) employer mandate required large employers to offer ACA-compliant health insurance to avoid tax penalties.

Starting in 2020, employers gained an alternative option through Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs), which allow businesses to reimburse employees tax-free for individual ACA plans while remaining compliant.
